And over £30,000 towards Cancer Research
We made it (at least some of us)..
It was just an idea, it got legs, it got volunteers, but I don’t think any of us quite knew what we were letting ourselves in for. Training over the winter was enlightening at times and certainly kept those winter pounds at bay.
We started at 2am Friday 16th May and finished at 6.15am on Saturday, OK we didn’t do it in 24 hours, but those of us that finished are just proud that we completed the challenge at all. It was far harder than any of us had imagined, but the team spirit was amazing and no individual could have completed without the motivation and support of the others.
Unfortunately Simon Hocking and Julie Decraene-Dunn were unable to complete the challenge due to injuries sustained during the first leg, but have both vowed to go back to the Lakes before the end of the summer to complete the second leg.
We all have our memories of the experience, some that would be best forgotten, but seeing dawn twice in 24 hours has to be a highlight, and meeting fell runners taking part in the Bob Graham Challenge at midnight made us feel that we weren’t totally on our own out there.
Today the world goes on as normal, but for each of us the world is slightly different having each achieved what we have and raised just under £30,000 for Cancer Research – we all rightly feel very, very pleased with ourselves.
Finally a big thank you to our sponsors, without you we wouldn’t have had the motivation to finish or a reason to start.
Thanks again for your support on behalf of The Hiking Hoteliers
